The North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault is an inclusive, statewide alliance working to end sexual violence through education, advocacy, and legislation. NC CASA’s Associate Director will join us to discuss its work in our community, define & discuss sexual harassment, sexual violence and sexual violence prevention.
Beyond the unprecedented box office stats ,the Black Panther movie ignited deep connection and camaraderie across the African diaspora. Some ask ‘Why is everyone going crazy for a Marvel movie” or “You know Wakanda is fictional, right?” Others see it as a moment in history.
A recent H&M ad featuring a Black boy wearing a monkey sweatshirt fired up a fervor in the Black community and beyond. Differing views on slurs (racial and others) expose the many underlying disconnects between seemingly well-meaning folks.

We have so much to learn from the young adults in our lives. Whether they’re home for the summer or home to stay, let’s get together to create space for them to share their views about identity and intersectionality with us.

Language is so important in conversations about race, as it can invoke powerful feelings, ideas or memories. In fact, conversations can end before they even begin because of language (or a lack of “the right word”). Let’s discuss and dismiss barriers that keep us from fully engaging in meaningful conversations about race.
The recent box office hit, Hidden Figures, tells the untold story of Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson – brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.
Let’s explore the myriad and varied reactions to this film & book. Our group will include women engineers.
